High Speed Data Transmission for Non-EE's - Part 1 - Sparky Say What?

b2ap3_thumbnail_Blogpost-Image-2.jpgIf you are not an Electrical Engineer or Physics Wiz, you may struggle with the whole concept of high speed electrical connections and the parameters associated with high speed connectivity.  Digital data transfer should be so easy, right?

We're just moving a bunch of ones and zeros.  Well, that would be great, but, like everything in life, the closer you look, the less black and white and the more grey you get.  Insertion loss, crosstalk, S-parameters, Eye diagrams -- Sparky say what?

In the upcoming posts in this series,  we will put this knowledge in a mechanical context for all of us "non-Sparkys".  I will use a number of different mechanical analogies in an attempt to help us better understand the ethereal art of moving high speed data from one place to another.

We'll see you at the "table" in Part 2.
