Amphenol Aerospace Released from D38999 Mil-Spec Stop Shipment



Sidney, N.Y. August 2016 – Amphenol Aerospace has been released from the “Stop Shipment” restriction imposed on all military specification MIL-DTL-38999 Series I, II, III connectors.  Additional Mil-Spec connector series are being released from “Stop Shipment” as approved.

Changes in industry standards emphasizing zero-defect component manufacturing and more rigorous change controls were major precursors to the restrictions put on Amphenol Aerospace.  As a result, Amphenol Aerospace is pioneering these industry changes and working with the standards community on additional changes.

High Speed Solutions Introduces Rugged VPX Media & Protocol Conversions


Amphenol Aerospace, a global leader in interconnect technologies, now offers an off-the-shelf protocol/media converter VPX engine, the Rugged VPX Media Conversion Modules. The modules are an embedded and integrated set of media and protocol conversion VPX boards for open systems architectures in the military rugged market.

The Rugged VPX Media & Protocol Conversion Module provides connectivity for 1G, 10G, and up to 40G Ethernet with 1G-Base-T, 10G-Base-T, and Fiber Base-SR conversion circuitry. It has multiple copper and fiber conversion formats in a unit that meets MIL-STD-810 vibration specifications and rugged temperature ranges. The 3U and 6U VPX modules have corresponding internal sub-system connectors and cables, as well as full test and integration set of products.

The module is ideal for any rugged application where network integration is needed to connect various sensors, recorders, processors, display engines, and other networked devices together. It is intended for plug-and-play integration with COTS VPX CPUs, switches, and other devices.

Rugged R-VPX VITA 46 Compliant Connectors

The R-VPX connector series is designed for embedded computer applications in many commercial and military applications, such as avionics, C4ISR, ground defense, missile defense, and space systems with data rates of 10 Gbps or more.

The R-VPX series is a commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) high-speed, high-density, ruggedized VITA 46-compliant connector series. This cost-effective series is designed to be utilized in open architecture embedded computing systems with modules available for 3U and 6U VPX slot profiles and is inter-mateable and inter-mountable with any VITA 46-compliant connector. The R-VPX series gives users modularity and flexibility by utilizing PCB wafer construction with customized wafer-loading patterns. This also allows for upgrades in existing VPX systems.

 R-VPX is a pin-less backplane, low-mating force connector series that supports Ethernet, Fiber Channel, InfiniBand, and other protocols. It is capable of up to 140 signals per inch, supports .8 inch card slot pitches, and can be combined with high power modules, RF modules (VITA 67) and optical modules (VITA 66).

Amphenol Aerospace Introduces the 10G-Base-T


 

10GBase-T Amphenol Aerospace, a global leader in interconnect technologies, now offers a new four-channel 10G-Base-T to XAUI connector product in addition to its current set of 10GbE products. The product facilitates the bi-directional protocol conversion of four channels of IEEE 802.3 XAUI through the appropriate PHY and transformer logic to IEEE 802.3 10G-Base-T. 
 
The product has been developed, integrated, and delivered for the rugged environments typically found in Military, Aerospace, and Industrial markets. The qualification testing was conducted with test methods and limits for products fielded in aerospace applications. Most, if not all, of the relevant IEEE 802.3 standards are supported. 
 
The four-channel converter utilizes Split Pair Quadrax contacts for 10G-Base-T system connections. Split Pair Quadrax is a derivative of standard industry Quadrax, but has improved signal integrity to support up to 6.5Gbps signaling. The contact is used to enhance the signal integrity of the 10G-Base-T interface. The product can support 10G-Base-T cable distances of 100 meters on CAT6A cable, or 30 meters on the same cable in low power mode. A power supply, two dual-channel 10G-Base-T to XAUI PHYs, Ethernet transformers, clocking, and an MDIO interface is contained within the connector unit itself. There is no MDIO communication necessary to utilize the converter connector, but access over this channel to the PHY units enables users to change configuration or optimize the given links, in addition to retrieving data for built-in-test requirements. Power and ground inputs attach to the unit via a small connector and cable assembly. The sub-system interface is a dual-bank Samtec HQDP ribbon and connector that includes four channels of XAUI and the MDIO interface. 
 
Other configurations are available including different shell rotations, alternate plating, power cable lengths, signal cable lengths, and others. In addition to supporting 10G-Base-T on the physical system side, the product also supports interoperability with IEEE standard devices operating at 10Base-T, 100-Base-Tx, and 1000Base-T. On the sub-system side, an SGMII MAC interface is also supported in addition to XAUI. By providing this rugged product to the market, communication between system components and internal MACs and switches becomes much more trivial.”

 

The product is stocked for prototype quantities by Mouser Electronics and is accompanied with test cables and test boards. This enables rapid integration into sub-systems.

Amphenol Qualifies 2nd Manufacturing Source for MIL-DTL-22992 Class L Connectors

Sidney, NY – April 15, 2015 – Amphenol Aerospace (NYSE: APH), a global leader in interconnect technologies, has qualified Amphenol India as a second manufacturing source for their MIL-DTL-22992 Class L connectors.

The second manufacturing source gives Amphenol Aerospace an additional cost-effective way to supply their mil-spec qualified heavy duty power connectors to the military ground and support equipment markets.

Amphenol Aerospace’s MIL-DTL-22992 Class L heavy duty connectors include features that are critical to reliable interconnections in rugged environmental conditions. Class L connectors are able to carry heavy electrical loads with a current range from 40 to 200 amperes for either direct current or single/three phase with 60/400 Hz alternating current. The connectors are resistant to the harsh operating environments of heat, moisture, vibration, high impact and immersion.

Amphenol Aerospace Releases Online Parts Configurator for the 2M Product Series


Online tool will allow users to configure their 2M connector needs and download all of the technical information, including 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.

 

Amphenol Aerospace, a global leader in interconnect technologies, has launched its first online parts configurator, starting with the 2M Product Series.  The online parts configurator allows the user to search through and compare hundreds of different 2M connector options. Once the options are narrowed down, the user can download and save all of the technical data and dimensional information specific to each selection. Finally, once a part is configured, the user can either download or email a 2D drawing or even download a 3D model based on the engineering software capabilities of the user.

Amphenol Aerospace, a global leader in interconnect technologies, now offers hermetically sealed assemblies and bulkhead feed-throughs in the ARINC 801 circular connector format for fiber optic interconnects.  These assemblies are designed for aerospace applications demanding a high level of environmental and pressure sealing.  Using processes and materials originally developed for Amphenol’s industry-leading hermetically sealed electrical connectors, these fiber optic assemblies can achieve sealing rates in excess of 1X10^-5 He/sec.  They are available in all standard shell size/insert arrangements for multi-mode (50/125um and 62.5/125um) and single-mode optical fiber.

Multiple Mil-Spec Plating Alternatives to Cadmium



Amphenol Aerospace Operations has received authorization from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) for their Black Zinc platingNickel, "Z" Class plating finish. This qualification covers all Amphenol Aerospace Series III D38999 connectors. Black Zinc Nickel and Durmalon are the only qualified Mil-Spec approved alternatives to Cadmium.

As commercial, industrial, and military markets are rapidly moving away from hazardous materials such as Cadmium, Amphenol is proud to be the only supplier offering customers two non-hazardous finishes. The Black Zinc Nickel and Durmalon finishes are RoHS compliant and meet or exceed MIL-DTL-38999 specifications. Both Black Zinc Nickel and Durmalon plating finishes can withstand 500 hours of dynamic salt spray and 500 mating cycles. Both plating options are also conductive and non-reflective.

Amphenol and Datakey Electronics Collaborate



RMTAmphenol Aerospace Operations has collaborated with Datakey Electronics to provide a rugged, removable storage solution. The result of this collaboration provides designers with a ruggedized flash drive and panel-mount receptacle solution, the Ruggedized Memory Terminal (RMT).

The Ruggedized Memory Terminal (RMT) integrates components from both corporations.  Instead of using a standard USB type A connector, the RMT leverages Datakey Electronics' SR4220PCB receptacle, which is integrated into Amphenol's field-proven MIL-DTL-38999 connector.  The receptacle mates with Datakey Electronics' UFX RUGGEDriveTM memory tokens, which provide USB flash drive functionality, but have a more rugged construction and employ additional security features than consumer flash drives.  Amphenol's high speed Oval Contact System (OCS), on the alternate side of the RMT, provides a reliable interconnect system for ruggedized computers and devices.
