It’s true!! Those are all performance traits of Amphenol Aerospace’s Bristle Brush Bunch, a.k.a. “Brush” contact system!!

The basic concept of the brush contact is different than any other contact system. The initial concept was developed in the late 1960’s by Amphenol Aerospace (formerly Bendix Connector Operations), in cooperation with the Department of Energy. Amphenol spent over 10 years developing the brush contact system and intricate methods to manufacture them. 

Unlike typical pin and socket, or blade and fork, contact technology, the brush contact utilizes multiple brush wires in a hermaphroditic configuration to generate redundant contact paths. The displacement of the brush wires of both contacts in a mated pair of contacts results in energy storage in both halves of a mated contact pair, maximizing the reliability. Brush contacts create a reliable, low mating force contact system, which has excellent performance over many mating cycles and reduces fretting induced by mechanical vibration or thermal excursions. 

Over 1 billion brush contacts have been fielded with an impeccable performance-reliability record since the technology was developed. Our connectors that incorporate brush contacts have been designed into numerous Military, Medical, and Commercial applications.
