Boeing has developed an external pylon for its B-1B Lancer bomber that’s intended to enable the aircraft to be used for hypersonic missile testing.

Boeing’s Load Adaptable Modular (LAM) pylon has a 7,500-pound weight capacity and would allow the B-1 to carry 50 percent more munitions.

The Air Force has primarily used the Boeing B-52 to conduct its hypersonic missile tests to date. The B-52s are slated to receive new engines and other upgrades to keep them flying for the next several decades.
