Amphenol’s VITA 66 family of fiber optic connector products are ruggedized blind-mate optical MT module/backplane connector systems designed to meet the VITA 66.1 and 66.4 open architecture specifications. These products can be utilized in VPX systems as defined per VITA 46 or as standalone blind-mate optical connector solutions. Amphenol’s connector systems provide reliable high-speed connections for the most extreme commercial and military environments.
The VITA 66.1 standard defines a family of blind-mate fiber optic interconnects for use with VITA 46 backplanes and plug-in modules, specifically utilizing the MT ferrule variant. This standard ensures mechanical and functional interoperability by specifying MT ferrule configurations, interface characteristics, and mating requirements. It supports both singlemode and multimode fibers with configurations ranging from 2 to 24 fibers and is ideal for high-density optical connectivity in rugged VPX systems.
The VITA 66.4 standard, an extension of VITA 66.1, introduces a half-width MT variant that optimizes space utilization while maintaining compatibility with VPX architectures. It leverages the same MT ferrule specifications but focuses on compact designs for applications requiring reduced footprint without sacrificing performance. Both standards emphasize compliance with industry norms, including IEC and ANSI/VITA guidelines.
