The U.S. State Department on April 23 approved a $46 million sale of Javelin launchers and missiles to Ireland.

The sale includes 36 Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLUs) and 44 FGM-148 Javelin missiles, along with missile containers, Enhanced Producibility Basic Skills Trainers, training, and related logistics and program support. This transaction supplements a previous $8.7 million sale of 44 Javelin missiles that did not require congressional notification due to its lower value.

The FGM-148 Javelin is a man-portable, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile system designed for use against armored vehicles and fortifications. It has been in service with the Irish Defence Forces since 2006.

The new acquisition is intended to replenish training stocks and enhance Ireland's capabilities in international peacekeeping operations.

The Javelin system is jointly produced by Lockheed Martin and RTX.
