The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking nearly $1.6 billion in additional funding apart from its latest budget request as the branch continues a modernization push.

With this funding, the branch seeks to acquire several new big-ticket items, including a Lockheed Martin HC-130J long-range surveillance aircraft for nearly $139 million and $400 million for four additional Fast Response Cutter ships.

Money has also been requested for approximately $320 million in upgrades to branch infrastructure to accommodate the new ships at Coast Guard ports.

This funding request is separate from the branch’s approximate $13 billion fiscal 2024 budget request.
