The U.K. and U.S. governments have reached a deal for Britain to acquire 14 new Boeing Chinook helicopters for the Royal Air Force, primarily for use by British special forces.

The new helicopters will replace the oldest Chinooks in the Royal Air Force’s fleet, replacing 14 Chinooks that will be retired due to age to maintain a fleet of 51 Chinooks.

The new Chinooks will be extended-range models with double the range of the standard model Chinook.
