The U.S. Air Force is seeking to retire its fleet of 27 U-2 Dragon Lady spy aircraft in 2026 following several decades of trying to phase out the iconic Cold War-era planes.

The U-2 has been in service since 1956. Divestment of the program would require approval from Congress.

The Air Force also seeks to decommission its fleet of RQ-4 Global Hawk reconnaissance drones by 2027.
