US approves possible sale of Hawkeye aircraft to Japan

The U.S. State Department gave its approval on March 7 for a potential $1.4 billion deal to sell E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft to Japan.
Japan has requested to purchase up to five E-2D aircraft to add to its current fleet, as well as 12 engines, six MIDS-JTRS terminals, five APY-9 radars, and other associated systems as part of the potential deal.
The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is a twin-turboprop airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platform used by the U.S. Navy for detecting and tracking potential threats from the air and sea.
Northrop Grumman, the aircraft’s manufacturer, will serve as the deal’s principal contractor. The values and quantities associated with the deal could change while negotiations are ongoing.
