The U.S. Army has issued a $1.7 billion contract modification to RTX’s Raytheon Missiles & Defense business for low‑rate initial production of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) radar system.

This action augments a previously awarded contract, raising the cumulative contract value to about $3.8 billion.

LTAMDS, developed as a next‑generation radar to replace the existing Patriot radar arrays, features three fixed 120‑degree antenna arrays that provide full 360‑degree air and missile defense capability. It delivers more than twice the power of its predecessor.

RTX’s LTAMDS system previously achieved Department of Defense Major Capability Acquisition Milestone C earlier in 2025 following eight increasingly complex flight tests, marking its formal transition from prototype to production as a program of record.

Work is scheduled through Dec. 2029 in Andover, MA.
