Poland has recently signed a contract valued at U.S. $3.8 billion to modernize its fleet of 48 F‑16C/D Block 52+ fighter jets.

These aircraft, originally delivered between 2006 and 2008, will be upgraded to improve capabilities in reconnaissance, communications, multi‑domain integration, and interoperability with F‑35s, Abrams tanks, and Apache helicopters.

Work is scheduled to take place at the Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 2 military aviation plant in Bydgoszcz.

The modernization initiative reflects Poland’s ongoing effort to enhance its defense posture; the country is targeting 5 % of its GDP for defense spending by 2026.
